The Big FOUR-OHHHHH MY!

Well, I'm another year older now. Today I celebrated the BIG one. The Big 4-0h. Yikes!

It was a good day. It started out great as each of our kids surprisingly remembered to wish me a happy birthday.

Then, we all piled in the car, and as we were exiting the subdivision, we noticed that someone had put up a REALLY pretty sign wishing me a happy birthday! What a nice surprise, and one that made me feel extra special. (I have no idea who did that, so if you're reading this, thank you very much!!)

THEN, I walked into work to find a gift on my desk from my friend Amy Ladd...another great surprise!

Today was also the "Day of Caring" at WTHI. A day set aside for the employees of WTHI to give back to the community. So, today was a very light hearted day as the staff worked around Terre Haute painting over graffiti.

Tonight I got an IPOD from Denny and the kids, and some nice gifts from my mom and in-laws, and my Mama made me dinner complete with cake and homemade ice cream!

Moses

This month, John, our pastor is preaching a sermon series on Moses, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. During it, he mentioned a quote from Dwight L. Moody, and I could relate to it. The quote was this:

"Moses spent his first forty years thinking he was somebody. He spent his second forty years learning he was a nobody. He spent his third forty years discovering what God can do with a nobody."

Though it hasn't been in 40 year increments, I have certainly recognized that same cycle in my own life. How encouraging it has been to revisit the story of Moses. To be reminded of where this man came from. To be reminded of how he messed up, just like we mess up. To be reminded of how he felt SO inadequate when God called him, just as we often feel inadequate to do the things that God calls us to do. Yet despite his mess ups, despite his feelings of inadequacy, despite his human frailty, God chose Him to be the vessel through which to reveal His glory. I know the scripture says that "Elijah was a man, just like us", but I believe that's applicable here as well, Moses was a man just like us. And God is no respector of persons, what He does for one, he'll do for another.

Father, help us to always trust you especially when we feel inadequate to do the things you call us to do. Help us to listen, and then obey, and watch in awe at what you can do through us when we are fully surrendered to you.

Cottage Cheese for Dinner

Thanks for taking part in my cottage cheese poll. In honor of you all, we had SMALL curd cottage cheese for dinner tonight. (along with chicken marinated in Italian dressing, corn on the cob, fresh tomatoes, green beans, and crescent rolls....)

Time for a Poll

I've seen that other bloggers have a "poll" in their side bar. Well, I haven't taken the time to figure out how to set that up yet, but I do have a poll to take. Here's the question:

We bought large curd the other day by mistake, and I about grossed out, so it made me wonder what other people like. PLEASE leave me your response, I'm very interested.

Prayer for the Church

I read this, this morning, and thought what an awesome scripture to claim, and pray for our church...

"He handed out gifts above and below, filled heaven with his gifts, filled earth with his gifts. He handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ's followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ's body, the church, until we're all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God's Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.

14-16No prolonged infancies among us, please. We'll not tolerate babes in the woods, small children who are an easy mark for impostors. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love—like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love." Eph 4:11-16

Father, you have indeed given each of us gifts, help us Lord, to use our gifts...so that we move rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to You Lord. Help us to be fully mature adults, fully developed within and without fully alive like Christ. Father help us to grow up, to know the whole truth, and to tell it in love. Keep us in step with one another. Help us to remember that your very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love.
